Spending some time in Ireland? If, like many visitors, your goal is to get out of Dublin quickly and enjoy the quiet, green countryside, I say stop a moment and treat yourself at my favorite brunch spot in the city. The Elephant and Castle is in the heart of Temple Bar, Dublin’s ‘cultural quarter’.
For a number of years in the early nineties, I lived on the edge of Temple Bar on Dame St. and frequently enjoyed long, late, weekend brunches at the Elephant and Castle – not too difficult since brunch is served from 10:30am – 4:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Now I stop by, usually with my husband and our two boys, whenever we’re in Dublin.
Check out the Eggs McSwiggan (eggs scrambled with smoked salmon and hollandaise) – yum! Enjoy with some fresh orange juice or live like a local and swap your coffee for a hot cuppa (tea). Be prepared to wait for a table since the Elephant and Castle is a popular spot. If you’re traveling with children, one parent can wait for a table while the other explores the medieval cobbled streets in this six-block artsy neighborhood.
